Xray Film to Digital Image Files
     
      You can easily transform your tooth xray film into JPEG files and send them via email for free online dental consultation.
   
Equipment Requirement  


   1.Digital Camera 
   2.Tooth Xray Film(Periapical Film or Panoramic Film)
   3.Light box or Computer Monitor
   4.Adobe Photoshop software(In our example,we use Photoshop 5.5)
   5.Camera Tripod(may be required)

 
   
Procedures  
 

   1.Put on your tooth xray either periapical xray film or Panoramic xray film on the light box or computer monitor(You can get white background easily by running the notepad program)

   2.Take pictures by Digital Camera in Macro mode. If your camera can't perform this, just take some distance,but need to be in focus to get sharp and clear xray picture. Don't use the flashlight. Adjust proper lens aperture. Mostly the camera needs slow shutter speed to get good clear xray pictures. Freeze your hand while pressing shutter button.

   3.Transfer your JPEG file from your digital camera into your computer harddisk.

   4.Run Adobe Photoshop 5.5 or higher and open your xray pictures in JPEG file.

   5.Select the crop tool by left click on the Toolbar. Then drag the area of the xray film you need. Right click and select "Crop".

   6.Left click on "Zoom" tool. Right click on the image and select "Actual Pixels" to enlarge the image to actual pixels. If it's too large,you can adjust to small pixels. But if not so,it's quite difficult to transform low resolution to high resolution.

   7.Now you got the xray picture only the area you need. Next step is to adjust brightness, sharpness and contrast. Click Image File Menu --- Adjust ---Brightness/Contrast. Then drag the triangle of either Brightness or Contrast to get good brightness and contrast xray picture.

   8.For more sharpness,click "Filter" file menu -- Sharpen --Sharpen More.

   9.Now adjust the pixels suitable for sending by email, not too large and also not too small. Click the "Image" from File Menu, then "Image Size". Then input the number of pixels in Width and Height. Make sure that the "Constrain Proportions" checkbox be checked.

   10. Then click on "File" and "Save As" to keep your original file safely unchanged. Put the name of your image and save in "JPEG" file.

   11.Now you got the xray picture ready to send for dental consultation.
